Soutdside Diner in Mount Vernon

This place is a typical, middle America diner supersized. Nothing fancy but very accommodating to large parties. Waitress was impressive. She remembered all 12 orders without writing anything down. Don't get up to use the restroom thought, they'll take your food away

It's a good place. Friendly staff. I like my waiter named Frank he is very good at what he does. However the place could use better cleaning though.

My Beef and Noodles felt like they were left-over from a nursing home. Shake was excellent tho.

A great diner on the south side of Mount Vernon. The place has a nostalgic 1950's feel and decor. I came for breakfast and was seated quickly on a Wednesday at 8am. My server was friendly and helpful. I ordered the Best Western omelette. It had ham, onions, peppers, tomatoes, and mushrooms. This thing was so big you could probably split it! Everything was brought out very quickly; about 5 minutes or less! I'll definitely be back for breakfast!

Been here with my grandparents several times who are regulars. Prices are very good with good, basic food to match. Servers are always smiling and patient and available. Easy to see why its always busy when we've been there.

Great food at a fair price. Great service and really nice people. I liked the decor also. The diner reminds you of a 50s era soda fountain. The place is always busy. Theres a reason for that! Good experience totally.

Order the sirloin tips you will love them. Skip the mashed potatoes and get the baked instead. Gravy over. Will come back often

First time visiting, we we not disappointed! I had the chicken strips, my boyfriend had the fish n chips, the coleslaw is hands down three best I've had! Sarah B was our waitress, she was so sweet, it was a pleasure to have her serving us. We will definitely be back!

Such a cute joint! One of a kind decor, huge and filling portions of GOOD food and even large desserts. Only complaint was slowish service, seemed understaffed.Definitely recommend and will be going back! Also if you go on you're birthday you get free pie😊

The first thing to catch your eye is the nastalgia that decorates the walls. They were very busy, however we were greeted and seated right away. Our service was great. The food portions were big. I recommend the hash brown casserole. In my opinion, it is better than Cracker Barrel. They also offer home baked cookies, breads and pies.

This is one of my favorite places in Mt. Vernon to eat. Prices are great and the service is awesome. Be sure to get a slice of pie before you leave!

This is a very busy and popular restaurant in the Mt. Vernon Ohio area. The food was amazing. I had the ham loaf which I found to be up there with the best homemade ham loaf I have ever had. The atmosphere is very fun fifties style. The wait staff was as attentive as possible for how busy they happened to be. BTW your visit was on Sunday afternoon around 1 pm. The carpets actually caught my attention because they were pretty old and worn out but this was not a deal breaker for me. Parking report: a lot of parking but you may have to walk some distance to get to get to the door. Bathroom report: I honestly didn't get to the bathroom this trip but my wife said they were OK. I will give a better report on my next trip.

We did takeout (delicious hamburgers with plenty of tasty grilled onions and mushrooms) but wanted to mention how well they are handling the social distancing post Covid. Diners in are separated, all staff wear masks correctly, and they have beepers for those of us needing to wait outside (although order was ready quickly) will be back soon!!

The food is really good with great basic dishes along with things I would have never thought of putting together. Imaginative dishes that surprisingly taste good. The service has always been great & friendly. I will definitely be going back & recommend trying it several times.

This place has good diner style food. The highlight for me was the dessert. Both the Blackberry pie and the Peanut Butter chocolate pie was great. The food was quick and the staff nice

Any time I am near Mount Vernon around meal time, I will stop at the Soutside Diner. Their salads are great. It is good food done faster than fast food.

Really neat place inside. We went on a Sunday morning, I believe Kenyon had Family Weekend, so it was super packed. The line was wrapped around the entire place. We decided to stay and we got seated in not even a half an hour, so that was pretty good. Huge props to wait staff and kitchen staff. Hashbrown casserole was amazing!
